HP Software Helps Businesses Transform Information Technology Processes to Accelerate Improved Outcomes

PALO ALTO, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 24, 2010 — Businesses around the globe are using software from HP (NYSE: HPQ) to increase customer satisfaction and drive greater efficiencies for competitive advantage.

Major airlines, hospitals, telecoms and energy companies are adopting the HP software portfolio to transform their technology processes in order to deliver business services faster and with higher quality.

“As the business environment becomes increasingly competitive, clients are looking to technology solutions to drive differentiation and support both top- and bottom-line growth,” said Anton Knolmar, vice president, Marketing, Software & Solutions, HP. “Our goal is to help clients use technology to power business innovation and deliver amazing outcomes to their customers and markets.”

Businesses use HP offerings to drive efficiency and optimize investment

Fiserv, a $4.1 billion financial services solutions provider, used automation to harness the power of virtualization and streamline management of physical and virtual servers in a high-volume electronic payment environment. Through the company’s implementation of HP Server Automation software, Fiserv was able to automate and manage 1,800-plus servers across two of its data centers, improve efficiency and allow for future server growth without adding to headcount.

“By automating manual tasks like policy template customization and rollouts, we were able to operate with greater scalability,” said Brian Baggett, engineering architect, Fiserv. “With HP’s help, we not only were able to increase efficiency and team productivity, but we also were able to establish consistent standards and best practices for compliance regulations, which can be applied throughout the enterprise.”

Verizon Business chose a combination of HP services, enterprise server hardware and automation software to serve as the foundation for one of the industry’s most comprehensive cloud computing solutions. Its Computing as a Service (CaaS) solution leverages HP technology to provide businesses with a flexible, secure and cost-effective way to manage IT resources.

“Enterprise clients continue to praise our CaaS solution for the unbeatable combination of security, reliability, flexibility and control,” said Joe Crawford, executive director, IT Solutions, Verizon Business. “With leading technology from vendors such as HP, we have delivered what we believe is truly a best-in-class enterprise cloud solution.”

Virgin Atlantic Airways, a British airline headquartered in Crawley, West Sussex, England, wanted to select and deploy an integrated monitoring toolset. Their goals were to raise end-user satisfaction, increase application performance, as well as reduce service and infrastructure problems.

“After implementing the HP Business Service Management solution, our customer satisfaction surveys are at an all-time high. The IT service team’s workflows are much improved and we proactively deal with high-priority issues before they impact the end-user,” said Mark Cameron, head of IT Architecture, Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. “The newly implemented products improve our IT capability and have demonstrated the value of IT to the business.”

Delta Air Lines, serving more than 160 million people each year, turned to HP Quality Center and HP Performance Center to improve customer satisfaction by enhancing the online user experience for its website, airport kiosks and curbside devices. HP software helped Delta reduce application testing time by more than 50 percent. Delta completed the integration of the SkyMiles and WorldPerks frequent flyer programs on time and on budget.

“The effort to merge our loyalty systems, including the integration of more than 74 million SkyMiles members, has been unprecedented, and created the world’s largest frequent flyer program in the process,” said David Moses, quality assurance manager for delta.com, Self-Service and CRM, Delta Air Lines. “By automating our application testing with HP software, we have been able to deliver what the business wants with the confidence that our applications meet our stringent quality and performance requirements.”

St. Louis Hospital, a non-profit private general hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, implemented the HP Medical Archive solution to provide 24/7 availability of massive amounts of digitized medical information. The HP solution enables the hospital to improve patient care and process efficiency by offering faster access to digitized images. Information that previously took several hours to locate now takes only seconds.

“We have been able to increase the level of satisfaction in both patients and physicians as a result of the performance of the HP Medical Archive solution,” said Sombhop Rosarpitak, information technology consultant, St. Louis Hospital. “The HP solution provided our organization with an immediate return on investment by lowering operational costs and increasing patient satisfaction.”

Transforming information to intelligence to improve business efficiency and effectiveness was a driving factor for CenterPoint Energy, a Houston-based energy delivery company, to choose HP Business Intelligence Solutions. HP Business Intelligence Solutions help CenterPoint manage the growing amounts of critical business information across the organization.

“Our task is to deliver a superior customer experience through the application of smarter technologies. Business analytics and intelligence requires a high degree of data integration and accessibility and serves as the basis for our systems of the future,” said Dr. Steven Pratt, senior director, Enterprise Architecture and Systems, CenterPoint Energy. “HP Business Intelligence Solutions helped us develop a solution that transforms our organization’s information assets from application-centric repositories to a highly accessible business intelligence platform.”
