March 16, 2010 - -Portland, OR – GeoNorth is proud to announce the implementation of an interactive web mapping application for the City of Beaverton, Oregon including built-in configuration for City administrator use. Using the Flex API for ArcGIS Server, the City collaborated with GeoNorth to develop this unique application which not only provides powerful functionality, but also allows for City staff to easily customize the application internally as needs evolve.

In the effort to provide interactive web mapping functionality to internal departments, the City chose the Flex API for ArcGIS Server as its preferred framework. After initial efforts to customize the sample Flex viewer provided by ESRI revealed significant limitations, the City chose to collaborate with GeoNorth to develop an application from scratch. The resulting application contains powerful features including selection set management, buffer and measure tools, markup tools, configurable queries, high resolution printing, and map service switching to serve multiple departments through one application.

One of the primary project objectives was to allow for custom configuration of the application by City staff without relying on assistance from external developers. As a result, GeoNorth chose to utilize a simple .xml configuration file which allows internal staff to utilize many different map services for display, as well as the ability to configure custom queries, selection layers, buffer layers and identify layers based on user needs. Additional configurable functionality includes custom MapTips, hyper-linking from record results and various application settings including zoom levels and tolerances.
