Pictometry Imagery of Haiti Donated to GISCorps Volunteer Efforts

Rochester, NY, — February 08, 2010 — Pictometry International Corp. announced today that it has captured more than 45,000 high resolution aerial oblique images of earthquake damage in Haiti and has donated access to the imagery via Pictometry Online™ to URISA’s GISCorps volunteers.

Pictometry captured the Haiti images after a January earthquake and subsequent aftershocks struck the capital city of Port au Prince and its surrounding area. Within days of capture, the imagery was processed in Rochester and deployed to GISCorps volunteers working on projects commissioned by relief agencies including the United Nations.

“We are pleased that Pictometry could lend a hand in the relief efforts with imagery that reveals the extent of the damage in Haiti in a way that satellite or traditional aerial imagery simply cannot,” said Dante Pennacchia , Pictometry’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Our imagery provides users with multiple views of every square foot of an area and enables them to make accurate metric measurements and annotations directly on imagery.”

URISA (the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association) is a non profit professional and educational association focused on the support of the use of spatial information and technologies for optimally managing urban and regional systems. The GISCorps is a URISA program staffed by volunteers from the GIS community in the United States and Canada to support humanitarian efforts and community rebuilding initiatives in locations around the world.
