Geometric Constraint Solver Enhances Sketcher Module for Part, Mold and Pattern Design and Manufacturing
PLANO, Texas — (BUSINESS WIRE) — February 2, 2010 — Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and Euklid CAD/CAM AG, a leading provider of specialized computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) solutions, today announced the release of Siemens PLM Software’s 2D Dimensional Constraint Manager ( 2D DCM) component in the Euklid CAD/CAM application.
Many manufactured products are derived from 2D sketches and Euklid CAD/CAM includes extensive tools for creating and editing such designs. Integrating the 2D DCM, part of the Siemens D-Cubed™ software family, enables design intent to be captured using both geometric constraints and driving dimensions which can be subsequently modified to rapidly explore design variations. Euklid CAD/CAM has implemented this capability to improve productivity with a new suite of tools for applying design intent to 2D part profiles, even as they’re being created.
“Licensing the 2D DCM to improve our sketcher enabled us to focus our development resources in other functional areas where we possess domain expertise,” said Heribert Kaiser, sales manager of Euklid CAD/CAM. “Our team can now concentrate its efforts on areas like surface machining and mold design, where we offer general tools as well as highly specialized solutions for applications ranging from impeller manufacture to tire tread design. In addition, implementing the 2D DCM has enabled us to deliver practical, time-saving innovations with a minimum of cost and risk. One innovation our customers value is the integrated design and editing capability that allows them to create parts or make changes to imported parts more efficiently.”
Euklid CAD/CAM joins a growing number of vendors offering solutions in the computer-aided manufacturing space who seek to improve their supporting design and editing capabilities by licensing geometric modeling and parametric design components from Siemens PLM Software.
“Advanced tools for 2D sketching are no longer a characteristic exclusive to specialized 2D drawing packages and high-end mechanical CAD applications,” said Joan Hirsch, vice president, Product Design Solutions, Siemens PLM Software. “Today the 2D DCM is licensed by application vendors of all sizes, representing a wide range of different industries who seek superior but affordable software tools from a well-established business partner. We look forward to supporting Euklid CAD/CAM as they deliver the latest high caliber application employing the 2D DCM.”
