Mindspeed’s Transcede Application-Specific SoCs Optimize Power, Cost and Performance of Multi-Platform, Multi-Standard Mobile Network Baseband Units (BBUs)
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 25, 2010 — Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that the company’s Transcede™ 4000 wireless baseband processor is being evaluated by ZTE as a potential solution for its next-generation wideband code-division multiple access (W-CDMA), long term evolution (LTE) and WiMAX base station products.
“Mindspeed® is already a leading supplier of carrier-class, application-specific SoCs to ZTE with our Comcerto® product line, and the evaluation of our Transcede family for ZTE’s baseband processing needs is a natural evolution of this engagement,” said Raouf Halim, chief executive officer of Mindspeed. “We are very excited to be working closely with ZTE as they look to semiconductor companies such as Mindspeed to facilitate optimal base station implementations targeting multi-standard, next-generation mobile networks.”
"Mindspeed T4000 SoC introduces an innovative approach to solving the challenge of designing cost and power effective LTE BBU solutions." Said Mr Zhang Rui, Senior Director of ZTE’s LTE R&D group, "ZTE is actively evaluating the benefits of Transcede 4000 in the context of our baseband and L2 software, as we believe application specific SoCs have the potential to become the main stream approach to address the power/cost/performance needs of next generation multi-platform, multi-standard mobile networks."
The Transcede SoC integrates an unprecedented 26 processing elements into a single device. This includes two ARM® Cortex™ A9 multi-core symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) reduced instruction set computer (RISC) processors, 10 CEVA® DSPs and 10 DSP accelerators that support the complete W-CDMA, LTE or WiMax (Layers 1, 2 and above) processing needs of single- and multi-sector base stations. Transcede can deliver three sectors of LTE processing in a single device, while still providing substantial processing headroom, allowing manufactures to deploy their own value-added features as part of an overall Transcede-based solution.
