How Is It That Our Armies Can Win Battles but Fail to Solve the Problems? Find Out at WBR’s Defence Geospatial Intelligence Event

LONDON — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 27, 2009 — "War no longer exists," writes General Sir Rupert Smith, Former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, powerfully in his book. "The Utility of Force" reminding us that the clash of mass national armies — the nature of warfare since Napoleon — will never occur again. Instead, he argues, we must be prepared to adapt our methods of warfare to each conflict, or lose our ability to protect ourselves and our way of life.

Using force effectively is not just a matter of having the right forces. GIS systems and capabilities have become the core of any decision in-theatre and in HQ. Right information at the right time could mean the difference between life and death. The Defence Geospatial Intelligence (DGI) 2010 event, taking place at the QEII Conference Centre, London from 25th - 28th January, is set to explore the most interesting, successful and innovative ways GIS is used in current military action and in war on terrorism.

Generals, colonels and their civilian counterparts from national security organisations will be debating and sharing experiences of using GIS in mission critical situations. London 2012 Olympic Games are one of the core subjects for discussions.

Presentations from European Ministries of Defence, Ordnance Survey, British Transport Police, The Metropolitan Police and many of their colleagues from USA, Canada, and Europe will form the conference sessions.

DGI is "a unique opportunity to examine the geospatial theme from the strategic down to the tactical level, reinforced by powerful examples of support to operations" said Nick Sutherland, Geospatial Intelligence Team Leader, DSTL, UK Ministry of Defence.

The  three-day conference and exhibition will feature project case studies, stakeholder-driven panels, peer-to-peer roundtables, executive level dialogue, product testing and networking opportunities to help attendees overcome the current and future challenges in GIS capabilities implementation.

With over 600 participants from 36 international countries, DGI has become Europe’s largest and most comprehensive gathering for military and national security geospatial intelligence.
