Smart Grid Solution GIS improves accuracy and efficiency for one of China’s largest electric grids
August 6, 2009 – Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today that Tianjin Power has deployed ArcFM™ GIS, part of Telvent’s Smart Grid Solution. As a result, Tianjin Power will maintain and manage more efficiently its electric distribution grid serving the city of Tianjin – the sixth largest in the People’s Republic of China with more than 10 million inhabitants.
Telvent’s ArcFM Geographic Information System is the object-oriented foundation that provides a single representation of an energy network – an accurate geodatabase of Tianjin Power facilities and assets in its high-, medium-, and low-voltage networks. This solution helps the utility improve management and maintenance of its facilities, reducing workload and related expenses of several of its business departments.
The open architecture of ArcFM GIS allows its integration into Tianjin Power’s Management Information System (MIS). This integration gives users the ability to query MIS and view returned information within ArcFM, while, users can extract
results from ArcFM’s QA/QC tool and send them via web services to the MIS.
In addition to increasing security and business efficiency, Tianjin Power appreciates that ArcFM GIS provides the ability to control user editing privileges by department.
To develop this project, workshop sessions were organized and conducted. During these sessions Tianjin Power representatives carefully described requirements specific to their operations and business practices. Telvent Utilities specialists then tailored the highly configurable ArcFM environment to create an implementation meeting those
specific requirements without incurring in costly customization.
