HP Unveils Digital Media Offerings, Spotlights Customer Win – Telecom Italia Media Broadcasting

LAS VEGAS — (BUSINESS WIRE) — April 20, 2009 HP (NYSE: HPQ) today introduced a set of digital media offerings designed to help media businesses reduce cost as they manage multiple distribution channels and rapidly growing volumes of digital content.

The HP Media Control solution family and HP Media Workflow Master can help telecom service providers, new media companies, broadcasters, studios and post-production facilities streamline operations in the overall digital media workflow. As a result, they can deliver digital content to market more quickly and efficiently.

Telecom Italia Media Broadcasting (TIMB) is deploying key solutions of HP Media Control to achieve greater efficiency and flexibility in its video operations.

The announcement was made at the National Association of Broadcasters tradeshow, where HP is showcasing solutions at booth SL 4420.

HP Media Control solutions are designed to provide cost-effective scheduling, monitoring and archiving of digital content. They are complemented by HP Media Workflow Master, a new integration technology that streamlines the digital media workflow process. Both solutions augment the widely adopted HP Media Storage solution, which is designed specifically for fast, efficient storing, archiving and handling of large video files.

“Companies can realize significant operating efficiencies with these HP solutions,” said Lionel Lapras, director, Digital Media, Communications and Media Solutions, HP. “With a unique combination of IT and media expertise, HP is able to reduce the complexity of multiple technologies and platforms, and help customers become more agile in the marketplace.”

There are two solutions within the HP Media Control solution family:

  • HP Control Room enables more efficient operations by providing real-time monitoring and archiving of multiple audio and video feeds.
  • HP Traffic Control helps companies reduce costs by unifying, in a single solution, the scheduling of content distribution over multiple user platforms.

HP Media Workflow Master provides a modular, environment for media businesses to integrate multiple operations throughout the organization. Companies can use existing tools from multiple vendors, and integrate new ones as they become available. With a flexible architecture and a common digital asset repository, HP Media Workflow Master helps companies streamline the entire digital media workflow, from acquisition to management to delivery of the content to any distribution channel.

With HP Media Workflow Master, companies can reduce costs by fostering efficient integration and reuse of common resources. It can also shorten the time to revenue for digital assets by enabling the efficient repurposing of content over any network in any format for any consumer device.

Telecom Italia Media taps HP to increase efficiency in video operations

TIMB is the third largest network broadcaster operator in Italy, providing transmission services over digital (free and pay) and analog terrestrial TV distribution platforms. With a central control site and six remote sites, TIMB uses HP Control Room to streamline its video operations. With HP Control Room, TIMB is able to monitor the entire network, including all broadcast video feeds.

“TIMB has realized greater efficiencies by monitoring and archiving the entire network with the HP Control Room solution,” said Crescenzo Micheli, chief technology officer, Telecom Italia Media Broadcasting. “With its open architecture, the HP solution gives us the flexibility to adapt our operations and even our business models.”

With a real-time “video wall,” TIMB can detect and correct network degradation much more quickly, improving the quality of the viewer experience. HP Control Room integrates traditional video probes used by TIMB to enhance audio and video monitoring.

To help TIMB comply with regulatory requirements, HP Control Room simultaneously archives multiple video feeds. With an HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA), TIMB can store more than three months of video content – with easy viewing and retrieval via a web-based system.
