Coresonic Joins ARM Connected Community

Linköping, Sweden, — March 18, 2009 — Coresonic AB, a provider of leading-edge baseband processor technology optimized for next generation multimode wireless modems, today announced it is a new member in the ARM® Connected Community, the industry’s largest ecosystem of ARM technology-based products and services. As part of the ARM Connected Community, Coresonic will gain access to a full range of resources to help it market and deploy innovative solutions that will enable developers to get their ARM Powered® products to market faster.

Rick Clucas, CEO of Coresonic, said, “With the heightened activity in development of always connected consumer electronics products utilizing 4G standards, we believe the only way these next generation devices can be supported is by incorporating baseband processors that are extremely small and efficient in terms of the space occupied on the overall silicon, yet be versatile enough to support multiple standards. Coresonic’s small and low power baseband processor technology, available as licensable IP, enables ARM customers building complex SOCs (systems on a chip) to now add a wide range of wireless standards to their product offerings. This includes digital video standards such as DVB-T/H/T2, ISDP-T, CMMB and ATSC, cellular standards such as WiMAX and LTE, as well as short range communications standards such as Bluetooth and WiFi including multi antenna 802.11n.”

Coresonic’s LeoCore architecture benefits and complements the ARM community by eliminating the trade-off that chip designers often have to make between performance and the flexibility of 4G modem solutions. LeoCore enables, for example, the addition of WiMAX connectivity to a chip using just 1.5 sq mm of extra silicon and worst case power usage of 50mW. The latter is proven on an FPGA demonstration system using an ARM processor for the MAC layer, running at 80MHz – enough to perform 5MHz single antenna WiMAX channels as well as other standards such as WiFi. In addition, programmable firmware allows developers of ARM-based products to respond to the needs of integrating multiple wireless standards as they evolve.

The ARM Connected Community is a global network of companies aligned to provide a complete solution, from design to manufacture and end use, for products based on the ARM architecture. ARM offers a variety of resources to Community members, including promotional programs and peer-networking opportunities that enable a variety of ARM Partners to come together to provide end-to-end customer solutions. Visitors to the ARM Connected Community have the ability to contact members directly through the website.

“The Connected Community is all about companies working together to provide the most complete solutions in the shortest possible time. By joining the Community, which now comprises more than 525 companies, Coresonic increases the large portfolio of skills, products and services that are centered around the ARM architecture, and currently available to developers worldwide,” said Lori Kate Smith, partnership marketing manager for ARM.
