March 05, 2009 -- 3D Laser Mapping has opened a purpose-built production centre for StreetMapper, the world’s first vehicle-based laser mapping system. Due to unprecedented global demand, 3D Laser Mapping has expanded its production facilities agreeing a five-year lease on a unit located on a prestigious industrial park just outside Nottingham, UK. These new facilities will be utilised as a dedicated production and testing facility for the highly accurate vehicle mounted laser-scanning structures enabling 3D Laser Mapping to deliver StreetMapper systems to clients around the world.
“Following a significant period of growth which has seen orders for StreetMapper systems from virtually every corner of the world it was imperative that we expand our production capability in order to keep up with demand,” commented Dr Graham Hunter, Managing Director of 3D Laser Mapping. “These new premises will enable us to create a world class production and testing facility and respond to future periods of growth.”
StreetMapper 360 has been designed for the rapid 3D mapping of highways, infrastructure and buildings using vehicle mounted lasers. Travelling at normal road speeds, StreetMapper 360 offers a 360-degree field of view with high precision mapping to a range of 300m. Capturing every detail along the highway corridor including barriers, gulleys and overhead wires, surveyors can create highly accurate 3D computer models for new scheme planning, maintenance, wide load route assessment and post-incident investigations.
StreetMapper, the result of a joint venture between 3D Laser Mapping, German guidance and navigation specialist IGI mbH and technology company Riegl. The system employs the latest laser scanning technology for improved field performance and accuracy, precision navigation including a solution for reduced GPS coverage in urban areas, combined with a flexible, modular configuration and increased ease of use and deployment.
