American Institute of Architects New Orleans Chapter Announces Recipients of the 2009 Design Awards

New Orleans , LA - February 25, 2009 – The New Orleans Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) announces the recipients of the 2009 Design Awards. Another record-breaking year for entries, twelve were chosen out of over 70 to receive awards of honor and merit.

This year’s awards theme Responsive, Responsible, Timelessreflects AIA New Orleans’ aim to continue raising awareness of the importance of classic architecture and great design. “The purpose of the Design Awards is to recognize and honor great work in the area of architecture. This year the final award determinations were tough, but the jury did a great job selecting winners that represent a spectrum of designs,” said AIA New Orleans Executive Director, Melissa Urcan.

The awards were presided over AIA New Orleans 2009 President Jeffrey Smith, AIA, 2009 Design Awards Chair Michael Piazza, AIA, and featured several prominent keynote speakers including members of the 2009 Design Jury: Jim Evans, AIA; Andrew Vrana, AIA; and Kimberly Hickson, AIA.

2009 Design Awards Program Information:
In order to recognize excellence in Architecture, AIA New Orleans will hold its annual Design Awards program on Friday, February 13, 2009.  Each year, AIA New Orleans Design Awards program accomplishes three simple, yet invaluable, goals: celebrate the best of this region’s architecture; recognize achievement in a broad range of architectural work; and inform the public of the breadth and value of architectural practice.  AIA New Orleans, a chapter of the American Institute of Architects, is seeking companies like yours to participate in our Annual Design Awards.

AIA New Orleans is proud to honor the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to improve the built environment.  This year our theme is “Responsive. Responsible. Timeless.”  A responsible design is one that responds to the site and region in which they are placed.  This responsibility also extends to producing a great design, and when all elements combine it can result in work that is timeless.  AIA New Orleans aims to continue raising awareness of why responsive and responsible architecture and good design are important.

It is clear that it takes the efforts of not only great designers and their teams, but that of great civic leaders, business leaders, and a myriad of individuals working in harmony to achieve important works of architecture.  When done well, the result is a sustainable, beautiful, working, healthy built environment that serves the people and planet in which we live.
