When doing as-built work, one of the biggest challenges is not getting an accurate image of what exists in the plant, as would be produced by traditional laser scan models, but producing accurate intelligent models of the processes that exist or those that are to be connected or tied into. In the traditional approach, facilities are scanned and then back office work is conducted on the scan that typically produces an unintelligent model. CADWorx fieldPipe approaches this in two different ways. The first way, using CADWorx fieldPipe for Lieca fieldPro, is where the user employs a laser total station to pick discreet points in the design which are then fed to an intelligent plant design package that models the piping system while the operator is still in the field. The second method, using CADWorx fieldPipe for CloudWorx, allows users, who are working away from the field, to pick discreet points directly from existing scanned data to create intelligent plant models from which design deliverables can be easily produced.
