ATLANTA, GA – February 23, 2009 – TerraGo® Technologies, a provider of software solutions that extend the access and application of geospatial data to professional consumers, has signed a Mapping and Geographic Information System (GIS) business partner agreement with Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB). The two organizations will work closely together to develop technology and business opportunities across common customers in the government, engineering, utilities and transportation markets for mobile geospatial applications.
TerraGo Mobile is a geospatial collaboration software solution designed specifically for non-GIS savvy users who are typically knowledge workers and field personnel that depend on location-based information to perform their daily tasks. With the TerraGo Mobile software running on Trimble GPS-enabled mapping and GIS devices, these workers are able to more effectively collect and collaborate with geospatial data to respond faster, make better decisions and be more productive.
“We are pleased to welcome TerraGo Technologies into our business partner program,” said Peter Large, general manager for Trimble’s Mapping and GIS Division. “As the mobile workforce quickly becomes one of the primary consumers of geospatial data, equipping field workers with rugged, accurate and easy to use solutions that utilize mobile-ready maps and images built directly from an organization’s GIS system is essential. TerraGo’s ability to offer its mobile software solutions on Trimble devices to make geospatial intelligence available to non-GIS savvy users provides a unique opportunity to meet this growing demand.”
According to Rick Cobb, president and CEO of TerraGo Technologies, “TerraGo Mobile helps organizations better leverage one of the most valuable data collection tools in their enterprise – their remote workforce – by making every worker a remote sensor. With billions of dollars being spent on GIS, CAD and advanced imagery every year, organizations must also focus on solutions that can extend these investments across their enterprise, all the way to the point of interaction in the field. We’re proud to align ourselves with Trimble, a company that shares our vision for extending the power of location-based intelligence.”
Initiated as a research and development project for the U.S. Intelligence Community, TerraGo Mobile came to market as a part of a controlled release program in October of 2008. More than 3,000 licenses have been sold to the U.S. Intelligence Community and leading engineering firms, such as Converse Consulting, a multi-disciplinary consulting engineering company that uses TerraGo Mobile for more efficient field data collection and asset verification.
How It Works
Leveraging TerraGo software, complex maps and images are optimized for performance and portability in the form of GeoPDFs, geo-referenced files that can be easily sent to field personnel. Once equipped with a GeoPDF and a GPS-enabled mobile device such as the Trimble® Juno™ handheld, field personnel are able to collect photos, videos, audio or free-form text on the map or image and share that real-time data with peers in the field or directly with the GIS analyst. In addition, custom forms can be created and attached to specific points on a map or image. Field personnel leverage the GPS capability or specific coordinates on the GeoPDF to get to their point of work faster and are then able to complete the form and attach it directly to the correct location where the work was completed.
The ability to provide greater access to geospatial intelligence is mission-critical for emergency responders and other field workers who manage critical infrastructure. They depend on having the latest location-based intelligence at their fingertips. In addition, the processes of “roundtripping” real-time data collected from the field back to the system of record can dramatically improve business process efficiencies and the currency of data. TerraGo Mobile operates on most devices running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 and 6.
