ARM Mali GPU Licensees Increase to 18 with Addition of Amlogic and Mtekvision

February 20, 2009 — WHAT: ARM announces two additional licensees for the ARM® Mali™-200 and ARM Mali-55 graphics processing units, further evidencing momentum for Mali OpenGL ES graphics acceleration in the mobile and consumer device markets.

New Mali GPU licensees include Amlogic of China and Mtekvision of Korea, leading fabless semiconductor companies in the Far Eastern market, bringing the total count of Mali GPU licensees to 18. Solutions based on Mali graphics acceleration are reaching into an increasing range of devices including mobile handsets, personal media players (PMPs), navigation devices, digital picture frames and set-top boxes, bringing visual entertainment to life.

The recently launched Mali-VE multi-standard video engine further extends the reach and applicability of the Mali product family and brings power-efficient video encode and decode acceleration technologies to ARM Partners who will be able to complement their use of ARM graphics and CPU IP to deliver ever more advanced and efficient system-on-chip (SoC) solutions.

More than 120 million Mali technology-enabled devices are now shipping worldwide. One of the most recent and innovative handsets, the LGE Renoir, is now widely available with novel use of Mali graphics acceleration to drive the innovative Flash-based user interface –   watch a demonstration on YouTube.

WHERE: ARM will be demonstrating how Mali graphics acceleration brings mobile experiences to life at Mobile World Congress 2009. Visit us in Hall 1, Stand 1C01.

Handset OEMs will be displaying mobile phones running Mali technology on their booths. For a demonstration of content running on the Mali-200 GPU reference platform please visit ARM Partner Zoran in Hall 2, Stand 2H59.

WHEN: 16-19 February, 2009.

WHY: The ARM Mali family of graphics processing units includes:

  • Mali-400 MP GPU - the most advanced GPU in the market for high-performance multicore processing
  • Mali-200 GPU - the only OpenGL ES 2.0 compliant GPU at 1080p
  • Mali-55 GPU - the smallest GPU in the world at 1mm2 on 65nm
The complete Mali graphics stack for accelerating UI, gaming, Internet & navigation applications is supported by pre-integrated and tested Mali graphics software including Mali-JSR297 and Mali-JSR184 technology.

ARM Mali video IP provides scalable solutions in video engines including the Mali-VE3 video engine for all popular video resolutions up to D1, and Mali-VE6 technology for HD resolutions, delivering power efficient, flexible encoding and decoding, and offering the optimum balance of flexibility and power efficiency.
