Within the session titled “Geospatial Technologies and Sustainable Development,” Smith will discuss how geospatial imaging provides a real world perspective on the earth’s historical and present day habitation. Through the power of high-resolution satellite imagery, it is possible to observe and monitor consumption of earth resources – an important tool and motivating factor behind the development and, ultimately, the improvement of environmental sustainability strategies. Smith will also discuss how today’s near real-time satellite imagery is poised to influence government policies for land and infrastructure development, natural resource management, urban emissions and erosion control in the future.
