ANNAPOLIS, MD -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Jan 26, 2009 -- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of wireless location infrastructure and applications, today announced that Centennial Puerto Rico (Centennial PR) has signed a four-year contract for end-to-end location-based services (LBS) including customized Spanish and English navigation and mapping applications. TCS now supports more than 50 wireless carrier in-network deployments of public safety and LBS in North America, Europe and the Pacific, and also serves carriers in North America and India with hosted LBS infrastructure.
TCS' hosted LBS solution enables Centennial PR to rapidly deploy both the infrastructure and applications to drive location-based revenues. Centennial PR selected TCS' white label navigation and mapping products to provide a Centennial-branded set of applications with over 40,000 targeted Puerto Rico points of interest. In addition to the Centennial-branded navigation and mapping applications, the TCS LBS infrastructure enables Centennial PR to add future location-based services, such as localized ads or buddy finder applications.
New LBS services under the contract include Navigation and Maps for a great amount of Centennial PR location enabled handsets which deliver real-time, turn-by-turn directions to over 40,000 points of interest. Centennial PR users will also be able to conduct enhanced searches using "what's near me," "what's on my route," "category near me," and "find by name" features.
"TCS is a proven and valuable partner in providing us with a full service location solution," said Naji Khoury, Centennial's senior vice president of marketing and business development.
