NASHVILLE, TN, November 5, 2008 (GEOINT, Booth #256) — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, today introduced the Geospatial Data Access Retrieval Translator (GeoDART™), a powerful new web-based search engine that enables geospatial information users to perform multiple searches, in parallel and across multiple data sources, using any service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform. The commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) product is designed for a wide range of government and commercial applications, including intelligence, oil and gas, agriculture, civil engineering, environmental protection and disaster response.
GeoDART is a new generation of the proven Harris data discovery, management and translation software tools embedded within legacy Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) being used by thousands of government researchers and analysts. To provide greater flexibility for users and expand the product's application to commercial markets, GeoDART has been redesigned as a standardized COTS tool that can be easily plugged into any SOA-based GIS.
GeoDART can query multiple libraries, catalogs and databases for geospatial and textual data, and provide search results in a common set of attributes for display via the user interface. It supports various external web-service user interfaces, including the new Harris Geo-STAR(tm) product, and provides external credential and identity management.
GeoDART allows users to customize their queries or orders by size and format, and supports automatic ordering of discovered products upon completion of a query. Queries can be conducted on an ad hoc basis, executed automatically at a set time, or saved and run on demand. GeoDART supports Boolean Query Syntax (BQS), query validation, parameter validation, and status checks of queries and orders.
"GeoDART offers the proven benefits of Harris geospatial discovery technology in a COTS product that can quickly search and retrieve information from multiple libraries, data content providers and third-party databases," said Sheldon Fox, president of National Intelligence Programs for Harris Government Communications Systems. "This new product is another example of our commitment to providing advanced, service-enabled solutions to our customers."
The Harris National Intelligence Programs business is a major developer, supplier and integrator of communications and information processing products, systems, and networks for a diverse base of Intelligence Community programs. Harris supports the ongoing transformation of the Intelligence Community into a more collaborative enterprise.
