Image Matters LLC Authors Best Practices Documentation for the Development of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) Web Services by Federal Agencies
Leesburg, Virginia, October 13, 2008 – Image Matters LLC, an award winning provider of geospatial IT solutions and professional services, announced that it was awarded a Category 2 Cooperative Agreements Program (CAP) Grant from the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) and its National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) partners. Under the agreement, Image Matters is collaborating with other CAP awardees to develop best practices documentation for the development of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) Web Services by federal agencies. In addition, Image Matters will develop an integrated Wetlands Permitting Solution, which will serve as a case study for the Best Practices Documentation. Image Matters will lead the collaborative development of a SOA-based solution that supports spatial analysis for multiagency interactions within the wetlands permit evaluation process.
“We are proud to be working again with the FGDC and our project partners on what will be a significant resource for federal data providers. The products of this project will help more agencies move to service-based access and distribution, and thus more fully implement their Geospatial Line of Business”, said Dr. Jeffrey Ehman, Director of Midwest Operations and Image Matters’ senior project manager.
“The effective design and deployment of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) using Web Services will in large part determine the success of efficient shared access to geospatial data and applications”, said Doug Nebert, FGDC System-of-Systems Architect, who is coordinating the Category 2 CAP effort. “Image Matters’ Wetlands Permitting Solution project, with collaboration from EPA, FWS, and Army Corps of Engineers (ACE), is an excellent example of the interagency use case that we are looking to support.”
The NSDI Cooperative Agreements Program (CAP) is an annual program to assist the geospatial data community through funding and other resources in implementing the components of the NSDI. The NSDI represents a broad consortium of government agencies and non-government organizations that work together to promote more cost-effective production, ready availability, and greater utilization of geospatial data across a wide range of disciplines. The FGDC sponsors the CAP to promote the technologies, standards, best practices and organizational collaboration vital to data integration partnerships for data investment and speedy delivery of geospatial products in support of government operations.
