October 09, 2008 -- Aberdeen City Council has taken a lead in improving the management of public information by implementing property information software from GGP Systems. One of the first local authorities in Scotland to migrate their Corporate Address Database to the latest British Standard BS7666: 2006 Aberdeen City Council is using the advanced gazetteer management solution from GGP, to upload address data to the Scottish National Gazetteer, contributing to the National Gazetteer Programme for Scotland. GGP NGz will also enable Aberdeen City Council to automatically distribute the data to all users of their Geographical Information System (GIS).
Aberdeen City’s Corporate Address Database (CAG) was originally compiled from housing records, Council assessors databases and Ordnance Survey AddressPoint data. The data is widely used within the Council’s Research and Information Department while other divisions, including housing, finance, estates and planning, hold copies of the gazetteer or use the Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN) from the database to improve the delivery of services to citizens.
“Aberdeen City uses GGP’s GIS so the selection of their gazetteer management software was a natural choice,” commented Mike Paterson, CAG Custodian at Aberdeen City Council. “GGP NGz has helped with the adoption of national addressing standards facilitating the migration to DTF 7.3 and enabled us to actively maintain our database. Using GGP NGz we will also be rolling the data out to all users of our corporate GIS.”
GGP NGz is specifically designed to manage a Council’s address database; ensuring a consistent, up to date and accurate base for all property based information within an organisation. GGP NGz also manages the import and export of data between the local authority database and the national hub and the complete GGP NGz product suite was one of the first software solutions to receive accreditation to the new national address standard BS7666.
“The adoption of the new data transfer format is a significant achievement and, using GGP NGz, we will continue to invest in both our local database and the definitive national addressing programme for Scotland,” continued Mike Paterson.
