Avanex(R) Introduces PureGain(TM) PG300 Series Small Form Factor Amplifier

FREMONT, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—September 24, 2008— Avanex Corporation (NASDAQ:AVNX), a pioneering provider of intelligent photonic solutions that enable next-generation optical networks, today introduced the PureGain PG300 family of small form factor amplifier gain blocks for single channel and narrowband applications in high speed transport - 40 Gbps and beyond.

The PureGain PG300 features a small footprint (70 x 40 mm) and low profile height (7.5 mm). These features, combined with low power consumption, enable easy integration onto next generation transponders. The product is currently being sampled for single channel and narrowband applications.

"Our PureGain PG300 takes its place among our industry-leading portfolio of amplifier solutions, said Dr. Sanjai Parthasarathi, Senior Director, Product Line Management at Avanex. The compact form factor, enabled by state-of-the-art packaging, coupled with superior optical performance at a low cost point, has resulted in indications of interest from multiple customers looking for effective way to integrate amplification in space-constrained applications such as 40 Gbps transponders. While the primary focus is towards narrowband applications, we are looking at extending it to certain wideband applications as well.

Scott Parker, Senior Vice President of Sales at Avanex, said, We are a recognized market leader in amplifier solutions at the module, rack, and network-ready levels. The PureGain PG300 amplifier represents a solution geared towards the growing 40 Gbps market.

Avanex's products will be on display in the Avanex booth at the 34th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC 2008) at the Brussels Expo Centre in Brussels on September 22-24 at stands 94-97.
