IPD combined with effective Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a revolutionary and much more efficient way of developing, managing and delivering a construction project. In its purest form, IPD utilizes a common contract that extends to all participants such that all share both risk and reward.
For this project, the various players have worked together as a team from the onset, using Autodesk's AEC software products to create and share common 3D renderings. By doing so the entire project team; general contractor, architect and all sub contractors have been able to participate in the design process, enabling each to identify and correct obstacles that would typically not be found until construction was well underway.
The integrated project team approach has been successfully applied in other market segments; software development, automobile design, and manufacturing, where benefits included improved time to market, cost reductions and increased product quality. This integrated project team will work to deliver the project in less than half the time of a conventionally managed construction project.
"This is both a challenge and an honor," commented James Alibrandi, President and CEO of Interstate Electrical Services Corporation. "The challenge of course, is to quickly become proficient with the new software tools that will enable us to collaborate on the project design, and second to use those renderings to streamline our delivery process. The honor is being chosen to be part of the team based on our reputation and technical expertise in design build."
In addition, this project is seeking LEED Platinum certification; another area where the IPD/BIM process excels.
