MapQuest Introduces New MapQuest Local Features

DENVER—(BUSINESS WIRE)—September 9, 2008— MapQuest today announced the launch of MapQuest Local, a unique set of local features that have been integrated into the MapQuest.com website. From one convenient location, MapQuest Local provides users with locally-relevant content, including news, events and videos for the city or destination of their choice. MapQuest Local can be accessed by clicking on the Local button on the MapQuest.com website ( http://www.mapquest.com) or by going directly to http://local.mapquest.com.

At the heart of the MapQuest Local experience are content widgets that provide localized information including:

  • Local news from hundreds of sources
  • Locally-relevant videos available across the Web from Truveo
  • Event and restaurant information from CityGuide
  • Area-specific photos
  • Movie times from Moviefone
  • Real-time traffic and gas prices provided by MapQuest

Ten content widgets will be available at launch with the selection of widgets and content providers expected to expand over the coming months. A convenient dashboard allows users to personalize their MapQuest Local experience by specifying their location and selecting the content widgets that are displayed each time they visit the site.

MapQuest Local is built on an open platform that enables the integration of third-party feeds from local businesses, news providers, event guides, social networking sites, and other content providers.
