WJ Communications Introduces High IP3 Mixer for Wireless Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 20, 2008— WJ Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:WJCI), a leading designer and supplier of radio frequency (RF) products and solutions for the wireless infrastructure and radio frequency identification (RFID) reader markets, today introduced the ML485, a GaAs MMIC mixer with integrated LO driver amplifier. This high-dynamic range mixer offers +38 dBm Input IP3 from 0 dBm LO drive level while drawing a very low 40mA current, and can be operated across a wide 1.6 3.2 GHz frequency range.

The ML485 can be used for upconversion or downconversion in a low-side or high-side LO configuration. The integrated LO buffer amplifier is integrated on the chip to allow for operation directly from a synthesizer, requiring only 0 dBm of drive level. The dual-stage LO driver provides a stable input power level into the mixer to allow for consistent performance over a wide range of LO power levels. The converter requires no external baluns and only requires one external bypass capacitor allowing the integrated mixer to easily be used by RF designers.

The current wireless applications demand cost-effective mixer solutions delivering highly reliable and superior performance, said Haresh Patel, SVP of Sales and Marketing at WJ Communications. The introduction of ML485 reinforces our commitment to offer a device with excellent features while provides the low-cost advantage which significantly benefit our customers.

Product Overview

The ML485 is a high linearity converter that integrates a GaAs MMIC mixer with an LO driver amplifier in an ultra-small lead-free/green/RoHS-compliant MSOP-8 package. A LO buffer amplifier is integrated on the chip to allow for operation directly from a standard frequency synthesizer requiring only 0 dBm of drive level and drawing only 40mA current. The dual-stage LO driver provides a stable input power level into the mixer to allow for consistent performance over a wide range of LO power levels. The converter requires no external baluns and only requires one external bypass capacitor. The converter has been designed to offer the market leading linearity performance with Input IP3 levels of up to +38 dBm. The ML485 can be operated across a wide 1.6 - 3.2 GHz frequency range making it ideal for Cellular / PCS / 3G Infrastructure, fixed wireless, and especially for newer emerging technologies such as TD-SCDMA / WiBro / WiMAX.

Value Proposition

Responding to market needs for better performance and low-cost mixers, the ML485 reflects these inputs by concurrently lowering the overall total cost of ownership and maintaining industry-leading high input IP3 performance for array of wireless applications. The following are the key features of the ML485:
