Numerous HP employees have already provided financial aid, and HP supports and encourages continued giving. HP employees in China have collectively given at least $285,000 – approximately $100,000 of which was donated within the first hour alone of China’s appeal for donations. The Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation also has instituted a gift-matching program for HP employee contributions for up to $350,000.
In addition, HP will donate approximately $300,000 fair market value worth of IT equipment to help rebuild local schools in the affected communities. HP has established an “earthquake emergency relief team” in China that will work to identify and support affected customers and mobilize volunteer teams to help recovery efforts. These volunteers will help with rebuilding and provide technical expertise to schools and communities in need.
“HP and its employees have a long history of supporting those in need,” said Piau-Phang Foo, managing director, HP China. “Our thoughts are with the families and communities affected by this tragedy, and we are working hard to relieve their suffering and return their lives to some normalcy.”
