October 19, 2007 -- The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) has contracted GeoDecisions, an information technology company specializing in geospatial solutions, to develop a geographic information system (GIS)-enabled Web portal framework and Straight Line Diagram (SLD) application. The new portal will enhance WVDOT’s visualization and analysis capabilities.
GeoDecisions will work with WVDOT staff to create a Web portal framework that will include a map interface that can display roadway-related infrastructure and business unit data, such as traffic volumes, roadway geometrics, speed limits, bridges, and pavement conditions. This data will be maintained in a spatially enabled database so users will be able to easily extract and view information of interest.
The SLD application – the first analysis component to be integrated through the portal – will allow users to query and select all or part of a route through various filters to view diverse data. For the first time, WVDOT’s data will be accessible with mapping capabilities and integrated applications through the new portal.
The deployment of this portal and the SLD application will provide WVDOT with the foundation to expand its spatial data analysis and viewing capabilities in the future.
