Tribal GIS Expands to T-REX

Native American-Focused Geospatial Organization Expands to T-REX

The National Tribal Geographic Information Support Center (NTGISC),also known as “Tribal GIS®,” has officially established their downtown St. Louis satellite office at T-REX, joining the ranks of other geospatial companies and organizations in their Geospatial Innovation Center on the 4th floor of thehistoric Lammert Building. Tribal GIS is a non-profit organization whose membership represents nearly four hundred federally recognized Tribal governments.

NTGISC provides geospatial information systems (GIS), technical assistance and support to Tribal governments. Additionally, NTGISC is a resource and advocate for Tribal data sovereignty and governance. This move by TribalGIS continues to assert St. Louis as the world’s “Geospatial Hub” and furthers T-REX’s commitment to foster innovation, growth, and diversity in the geospatial industry. The move also challenges the assumptions that many have that geospatial technology only revolves around DoD and other government-focused initiatives.

NTGISC chose T-REX for their downtown St. Louis satellite office specifically for their Geospatial Innovation Center. “St. Louis’ geospatial industryis booming and can only go up from here,” Garet Couch, President of NTGISC,said. “We want to ensure that Tribal governments are represented and are part of the geospatial conversations happening in St. Louis moving into the future. That’s why a collaboration space like T-REX located in the heart of St. Louis is so important; we need a place to foster these conversations to expand our presence in the St. Louis geospatial community.” Kevin Golinghorst, T-REX’s Interim Executive Director said, “We’re thrilled to have NTGISC as part of the T-REX family. While having such an exemplary group of geospatial entities is an accomplishment of its own merit, our job is not done. T-REX and the rest of The Downtown North District will continue to ensure our St. Louis geospatial industry continues to have a place to grow, network, and innovate.” Golinghorst also mentioned, “T-REX will be hosting our monthly Geosaurus Unleashed event on November 21st from 4pm to 5pm. Garet (Couch) a Shawnee citizen and President of NTGISC will be sharing information about his organization and presenting on GIS in Indian Country."
