The Urban Hawk platform deploys AI-based digital twin technology and advanced machine learning algorithms to spot and analyze critical municipal infrastructure assets, such as pavement conditions, street signs and guard rails, enabling the generation of quick-turn performance reports and alerts for immediate remedy response and action.

The innovative platform facilitates the rapid detection and reporting of infrastructure issues, allowing municipalities to proactively address deficiencies and promote safer roads while reducing repair and maintenance costs.

“The Urban Hawk platform provides fast and near real-time assessment of conditions that can affect the safety of vehicles and passengers on roads and sidewalks so cities can prioritize issues that require immediate attention, such as a large pothole or a missing stop sign, and schedule work for other issues that need to be addressed,” said Aneek Sarker, Urban Hawk Platform Leader for MEAA. “This platform is the result of years of research and collaboration with numerous future-forward municipalities and educational institutions. The Urban Hawk platform continues to be tested and trialed in several U.S. cities with great results.”

Upon detection of dangerous and problematic areas on roadways and along civic corridors, Urban Hawk relays this key information directly to a digital twin that utilizes geographic information systems (GIS) monitored by city planners and operators, typically by public works departments. The Urban Hawk platform can also be integrated to automatically generate work orders for the city to assess and repair problems.

The platform allows municipalities to access real-time tools and data to enhance resource management and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations, such as the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The Urban Hawk platform is centered on community sustainability, performance, and predictability, driven by a continued pursuit to help neighborhoods and cities thrive. The Urban Hawk platform continues to be tested in several U.S. cities.

“The Urban Hawk platform can also be integrated to automatically generate work orders for the city to assess and fix the problem,” said Eyad Zeino, Director of Mobility at MEAA. “Identifying roadway issues, getting them into the city’s work order system for evaluation and prioritization streamlines the process and expedites appropriate corrective measures.”

Urban Hawk was purposefully built in response to the needs of today’s future-forward cities and their visionary planners that seek community sustainability, performance, and predictability. The software architects and advisors behind Urban Hawk are driven by a passionate pursuit to help neighborhoods and cities thrive.

Fueling Urban Hawk’s quest to be an “always-on, street level, guardian” for modern municipalities is the reality that investment in America’s infrastructure is long overdue, with public funding down 40% since 1960. Urban Hawk is committed to turning this tide by enabling safe, smart, and reliable integration with municipal tools for seamless infrastructure management.

The Urban Hawk platform can quickly provide comprehensive snapshots of a city’s critical infrastructure assets without intruding on daily operations. The Urban Hawk platform features near real-time tracking of all assets, monitoring of degradations, digital twin for visualization, cloud storage, and AI-powered reporting.

Additionally, the Urban Hawk platform utilizes: the Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating (PASER) system to assess pavement conditions; Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping for accurate geographical data; anomaly detection to identify irregularities; and prioritization to address the most urgent repairs first. The Urban Hawk platform represents a significant advancement in municipal infrastructure management, combining state-of-the-art AI technology with practical, real-world applications to support sustainable community growth and resilience.

“From day one, our intention has been to assist municipalities in making substantive and efficient investments in critical infrastructure by focusing on key areas based on the near real-time proactive feedback made possible by our technology,” said Mark Rakoski, Vice President, Advanced Engineering, MEAA.
