His research work has attracted substantial industrial interest, as well as support from government agencies. This approach has enabled Ph.D. and postdoctoral students to participate in innovative and meaningful research, such as an award-winning new turbine concept that improves engine level fuel economy.

Martinez-Botas also leads the Turbo Group – a recognized center of excellence in turbocharging, hybridization, and exhaust gas energy recovery. He is director of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries-Imperial Future of Boosting Innovation Centre and co-directs Locartic, an initiative with the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He is a member of the Science Advisory Council of the UK Department for Transport and has made significant scientific contributions to air quality policy of road transport. He was elected as fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2018.

Martinez-Botas earned a Master’s degree in aeronautical engineering with honors from Imperial College London. He obtained a DPhil in the Rolls Royce University Technology Centre at the University of Oxford.

About ASME
ASME helps the global engineering community develop solutions to real world challenges.  Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education, and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world. In 2020, ASME formed the International Society of Interdisciplinary Engineers (ISIE) LLC, a new for-profit subsidiary to house business ventures that will bring new and innovative products, services, and technologies to the engineering community, and later established the holding company, Global Knowledge Solutions LLC.
