Berkeley, CA (May 2, 2023) –   polySpectra, maker of the world’s most rugged photopolymer resins, has announced its third Cyclic Olefin Resin (COR) material for durable 3D printing. At RAPID + TCT 2023, polySpectra has unveiled COR Bio, expanding the company’s reach into new markets with its first biocompatible 3D printing material.

"COR Bio is polySpectra's latest resin, designed specifically to unlock previously impossible healthcare and consumer applications for photopolymer 3D printing,” said polySpectra Founder and CEO Raymond Weitekamp, PhD. “COR Bio features an unprecedented combination of toughness, biocompatibility, and autoclavability – a critical triad for end-use medical device applications.”

The third COR material marks polySpectra’s entry into new markets. Beyond the flagship industrial opportunities for rugged COR Alpha and COR Black resins, COR Bio unlocks applications in a number of key application areas, including end-use part production for:

  • Healthcare
  • Medical Device Components
  • Dental Products
  • Surgical Tools
  • Consumer Products
  • Podiatry / Orthotics
  • Milli- and micro-fluidic devices

“The chemistry behind COR Bio has been in development for many years, with direct input from Fortune 100 customers in healthcare, medical devices, and biotechnology. We are tremendously excited to bring this powerful technology to the general public, which we hope will accelerate innovation in these critical industries," said Weitekamp.

COR Bio Capabilities

COR – Cyclic Olefin Resin – materials offer a suite of rugged capabilities unique in the 3D printing industry. Resin-based 3D printing has historically been plagued by issues of brittleness, holding this technology suite back from real-world end-use acceptance. With proven flagship technologies compatible with both industrial and, more recently, desktop DLP/LCD 3D printers, COR materials bring additive manufacturing to true production quality.

COR Bio now brings these qualities, in a biocompatible and autoclavable formulation, to new markets.

Further, COR Bio offers high impact strength, a high working temperature, and biocompatibility, while offering best-in-class polar fluidic compatibility.

Especially of interest, COR Bio features physical properties including 135°C glass transition temperature (Tg) as well as 100% elongation at break.

Equipment requirements and COR print profiles are available here. COR Bio is immediately available for order here. As part of the polySpectra COR portfolio, COR Bio is compatible with supaRinse washing fluid for post-processing.

polySpectra at RAPID + TCT 2023

COR Bio is officially launching today, May 2, at RAPID + TCT. polySpectra is hosting a press conference featuring a professional coffee bar in booth #2256 at 2.30pm CT to celebrate launch day.

CEO Raymond Weitekamp and COO Rakesh Jain, PhD, will be available at the press conference on day one and throughout RAPID + TCT to share deep dives into COR Bio and the opportunity to go hands-on with parts made from this new material.

Additionally, the polySpectra booth will feature interactive stations with all formulations of COR materials. Visitors can test for themselves the claims of durability, high-temperature resistance, and end-use production readiness for COR Alpha, COR Black, and COR Bio.

All three portfolio materials are available now for order in both 385nm and 405nm formulations.

Arrange a one-on-one meeting with polySpectra during RAPID + TCT here, and visit polySpectra’s virtual booth here.
