Esri Advances Enterprise Field Operations with iOS and iPadOS

ArcGIS Field Maps Improves Mobile Worker Efficiency and Accuracy on iPhone and iPad

REDLANDS, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 8, 2021Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, today shared increased momentum with ArcGIS Field Maps, helping businesses transform how mobile workers perform duties through field operations software optimized for iOS and iPadOS. Esri has been working with users in utility, transportation, public safety, and government enterprises for years to support their unique workflows and challenges. Now through ArcGIS Field Maps, a data-driven all-in-one app initially released in November 2020, mobile workers are able to easily collect and edit data, find information, and report their real-time locations.

“One of the most impactful uses of ArcGIS Field Maps was during the recovery from severe storms in Southeast Alaska this past fall,” said Mike Davis, Mobile Technology Practice Group Lead at HDR Engineering. “We needed to capture data very quickly and mobilize emergency responders from different agencies across a remote and disconnected geography. We used the ArcGIS Field Maps app and within 30 minutes had staff trained and using the workflow to collect and share data. With the durability of iOS devices, which we’ve used in the field since 2014, we can support teams from the deserts of Dubai to the North Slope of Alaska. We’ve never mobilized a team as fast and efficiently as we have with ArcGIS Field Maps app on iPad.”

As part of the Apple Mobility Partner Program, Esri worked with Apple during the customer beta program for ArcGIS Field Maps to deliver the best experience for mobile workers using iOS and iPadOS. The customers who have utilized this tool on Apple products are already seeing efficiency and operational improvements.

"ArcGIS Field Maps is enabling city staff to use iPad and iPhone to spatially track planting and maintenance of street trees that are being managed by teams participating in multiple city tree programs,” said Chad Huntington, Manager GIS and Engineering Systems, City of Burnaby, Canada. “Sharing data across these teams will result in time savings and improved data accuracy. This inventory will allow city staff to communicate the impact of these programs on various strategic initiatives, including climate action analytics on carbon capture."

Esri will continue to innovate and deliver new capabilities in ArcGIS Field Maps on iOS and iPadOS to support improved field operations and advance the mobile worker experience by simplifying workflows while addressing strategic requirements at the enterprise level.

“The move to ArcGIS Field Maps was the most recent step in our digital transformation path to move away from paper maps and processes, and we have delivered a more robust experience to our mobile workers by moving to iPad this year,” said Linde Carmack, GIS Specialist at Aurora Water, Aurora Colorado’s water utility. “We’ve exceeded our expectations by not only improving the timeliness and quality of our data, and streamlining the process for sharing of data with other city divisions, but also reducing significant staff time for tasks no longer necessary. We’re on track to save up to 10,000 hours through efficiency in the first year. In addition, the work done to the user experience of ArcGIS Maps on iPadOS and iOS is greatly improved. The display and navigation are so simple we’ve saved significant time training our staff.”
