March 4, 2020 – PHILADELPHIA — Cesium™, the market leader in streaming 3D geospatial technology, today announced a new consumer-focused application built on Cesium ion™ - the company's acclaimed geospatial mapping solution.
No Coding Required
“Cesium Stories” enables developers and non-coders alike to create interactive online presentations and story maps with a simple, easy-to-use interface. Navigate to a place in the world, capture the view in 3D, and add text and images to tell your story.
Bring Your Own Data
Unlike similar story mapping tools, Cesium Stories enables users to bring their own data (imagery, terrain, KML files, point clouds, photogrammetry, 3D buildings, BIM/CAD models and more) and combine it with Cesium’s curated 3D content that includes Cesium World Terrain and Bing™ Maps. You can use our 3D world terrain basemap, your own 3D data, or fuse multiple datasets together to share richer and more complex stories. When you’re done, just share it with a link or embed it into your website.
Create Shareable Content
Cesium Stories are compatible with all major web browsers. They adapt to mobile screens, desktop, and big screen projections. Embed directly into your website, or share with just a link.
Key Features:
- A styling editor that allows users to define how features are colored based on metadata;
- Support for data that changes over time;
- Light-weight measurement and analysis tools;
- The ability to add rich text and images.
Recent Applications
As part of a collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution, Cesium created a Cesium Story featuring a massive high-resolution 3D model of the Space Shuttle Discovery. Provided by the Smithsonian as part of their Open Access Initiative in which they will release millions of digital assets for free and open use, the 3D model was placed in a geospatial context in Cesium Stories and streamed online in high-resolution for the first time ever. Cesium has announced a partnership with the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (“CNS”), the largest think tank in the U.S. dedicated to stopping the spread of weapons of mass destruction. CNS will use Cesium Stories to expand the reach of their work, gain more insights from their 3D data, and share their findings with journalists, policymakers, and the public.
