Markforged Opens Manufacturing Facility in Massachusetts to Support its Accelerating Demand for 3D Printers

WATERTOWN, Mass., Oct. 22, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Markforged, the leading provider of metal and carbon fiber 3D printers, today announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Billerica, Massachusetts. The 25,000 square-foot space will enable the company to more than double its production capacity, support increased demand for Markforged 3D printers, and create new jobs. This is their third major footprint expansion this year — following a new European headquarters in Dublin, Ireland and an AI in novation cente r in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Billerica facility has also already received recognition as the October Project of the Month by the New England Real Estate Journal.

With tens of thousands of users in more than 50 countries, demand has exploded for Markforged materials and 3D printers. This has resulted in the company boosting material production by 81% in the past year. The new facility will support the fabrication of all Markforged materials that are used by companies in the aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing fields.

“With the significant growth of Markforged printers in the field, the consumption of our materials continues to increase at a rapid pace. Our new facility in Billerica gives us the ability to meet the demands of today and operations for years to come,” said Matt Gannon, Vice President of Operations at Markforged. “Billerica was the perfect choice for our expansion. The region is a hotbed for manufacturing and technology companies, and is strategically located with access to key partners and expertise to support the team.”

The manufacturing facility currently hosts 35 members of staff and expects to add another 25 hires in the coming years. Team members in the Billerica facility will enjoy all of Markforged’s company perks — including a wide variety of free snacks, gym access, catered lunches every Tuesday, and unlimited use of 3D printers and materials.
