LDRA Joins the Arm Functional Safety Partnership Program to Aid Development of a Mature Safety Market

LDRA tool suite automates software quality analysis and verification for functional safety and security standards compliance

BOSTON — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 16, 2019LDRA has joined Arm’s Functional Safety Partnership Program to help drive functional safety throughout the Arm community and specifically to those application areas requiring compliance with functional safety and security standards. With more than 40 years of experience providing software quality tools and services to customers in critical embedded application markets, LDRA serves those customers who need to adhere to and demonstrate compliance with functional safety standards including aerospace and defense (DO-178B/C), automotive (ISO 26262), medical devices (IEC 62304), industrial control (IEC 61508), nuclear energy (IEC 60880), and rail transportation (EN 50128).

Complying with functional safety standards in these markets mandates development organizations follow a rigorous, traceable, and auditable development workflow. To address this need, the LDRA tool suite provides bidirectional requirements traceability from functional, safety, and security requirements into and throughout design, development, and verification activities. At all points in the development and verification process, artifacts are available to demonstrate compliance with the activities and documentation required by these functional safety standards.

Although there are differences across the functional safety standards and industries, common activities that need to be followed include requirements traceability, software coding standards compliance, code reviews and walkthroughs, data coupling and control coupling analysis, structural coverage analysis, and unit testing. The LDRA tool suite, which is certified as a tool for functional safety by TÜV SAAR and TÜV SÜD, has proven to automate and reduce the cost of functional safety standards compliance.

"LDRA has had long-standing success supporting the Arm architecture and offering functional safety software tools and services to the embedded industry,” said Ian Hennell, Operations Director, LDRA. “We are excited to bring this expertise to the Arm Functional Safety Partnership Program to enable a comprehensive platform that enables cost-effective development, verification, and deployment of functionally safe applications in critical embedded systems.”

Arm’s Functional Safety Partnership Program brings together partners in Arm’s broad ecosystem who specialize in the area of functional safety and who can reliably support Arm customers with industry-leading functional safety services, tools, and training. This is especially important for industries facing big challenges such as the enablement of autonomous driving in automotive, smart factories in industrial applications, predictive technologies in medical, and reducing cost in aerospace.
