(SCHAUMBURG, IL – September 11, 2019) -- The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) introduces the Stainless Steel Fabrication Certification Program, as the latest addition to the CRSI certification programs. Originating in May of 2017, this initiative is a voluntary industry-sponsored program with the purpose of improving plant operations for the quality fabrication of stainless steel reinforcing bars and recognizing excellence in the concrete reinforcing steel industry.
To become certified, plants undergo a comprehensive and rigorous audit to demonstrate it has the personnel, organization, experience, procedures, knowledge, equipment, and commitment to provide quality products. Plants certified under the Stainless Steel Fabrication Certification Program have met the requirements set forth in the normative document ANSI/CRSI – IPG4.1: CRSI Standard for Standard Practice for Stainless Steel Reinforcing Bar Fabrication Facilities.
Alongside CRSI’s other certification programs, the Stainless Steel Fabrication Certification Program was developed to ensure facilities have the capabilities and quality control procedures in place to produce materials that meet or exceed industry and government agency expectations and/or requirements.
In 2018, two plants achieved stainless steel fabrication certification: Contractors Materials Company (CRR-Corrosion Resistant Reinforcing) in Walton, KY and Salit Specialty Rebar, Inc. in Buffalo, NY.

About the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute
Founded in 1924, the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) is a technical institute and Standards Developing Organization (SDO) that stands as the authoritative resource for steel reinforced concrete construction. Among the Nation’s oldest trade associations, CRSI offers many industry-trusted technical publications, standards documents, design aids, reference materials and educational opportunities.
CRSI’s members represent over 80% of the U.S. manufacturers, fabricators and placers of steel reinforcing bar and related products with over 600 locations in 49 states, and with over 15,000 employees. Members produce, fabricate and install approximately 9 million ton of reinforcing steel per year using scrap steel in efficient manufacturing operations. It is estimated that the industry impacts over 75,000 people in steel transportation and placement in North America.
The CRSI membership also includes professionals across the country who are involved in the research, design, and construction of steel reinforced concrete. CRSI staff comprises a nationwide region network of industry professionals.
