San Francisco, CA (July 25, 2019) – EDG, an award-winning hospitality design and strategy studio headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, and Braemar Hotels & Resorts announced the planned opening of The Clancy in January 2020. Located in San Francisco's vibrant South of Market (SoMa) district, the former Courtyard San Francisco Downtown is undergoing a rebranding and renovation of approximately $30 million to create The Clancy. The hotel now joins Marriott International's Autograph Collection® Hotels, a diverse portfolio of approximately 180 independent hotels around the world that reflect unique vision, design and environments.
EDG Design crafted the overall design concept and designed the lobby and restaurant spaces.
Downtown SF’s lure stems from its maze of mid-block detours and back alleys – destinations and experiences not on the main streets. This is where the hustle happens, new music launches, deals are made, and you are in the know just by being there.
Drawing inspiration from these urban, personality-filled alleyways, EDG’s design concept for Autograph San Francisco juxtaposes the city’s ongoing economic and cultural evolution to create a bustling new neighborhood hub where meeting basic needs is anything but basic. EDG invites guests to “Choose the Alley”.
The constant changing and duality of San Francisco back alleys is reflected in the two-sided Lobby bar, the lobby-facing side featuring craft cocktails and a lounge atmosphere, while the restaurant-facing side a more casual beer-centric vibe.
The courtyard of this former Marriott Courtyard is now center court, featuring large-scale street art inspired murals commissioned by local artists.
