Origin to Unveil "Origin One" at RAPID; New Manufacturing-Grade 3D Printing System Enables Additive Mass Production

Leading footwear manufacturer ECCO is using Origin One's programmable photopolymerization process and Open Material Network to cut production costs and get to market faster

DETROIT, May 20, 2019 — (PRNewswire) —   Origin, the developer of a new open platform for additive mass production, is debuting Origin One, the company's new manufacturing-grade 3D printer. Origin One's technology is based on programmable photopolymerization (P3) and enables manufacturers to reduce production time and product development costs while delivering consistent, accurate parts with commercial-grade materials.

Origin One Printer

Origin came out of stealth mode late last year and has pioneered a new approach, Open Additive Manufacturing, that combines modular hardware, open materials, and fast post-processing with its unique print technology to enable mass production.

Origin One uses P3 to precisely control light, heat, and forces among other variables to produce parts with exceptional accuracy and consistency. A responsive print process monitors polymerization data and automatically optimizes process conditions for the best possible results. The optimized build volume (192x108x350mm), compact footprint, and fast post-processing enables manufacturers to maximize production capacity per sq ft. One operator can manage a large fleet to produce thousands of parts a day without the need for external automation.   Learn more on Origin's website.

ECCO partners with Origin

Origin's open additive platform attracted ECCO, and the two companies have launched a partnership to develop a new approach to manufacturing footwear. ECCO is using Origin's printing platform with BASF's materials at their R & D department at the company's headquarters in Denmark. "We expect Origin's open additive approach will enable us to reduce development time, lower costs, and accelerate our time-to-market," said Jakob Møller Hansen, Vice President Research & Development, ECCO.

Beyond ECCO, Origin One is used by leading automotive, industrial, and contract manufacturers, as well as government organizations looking to integrate new technologies into their supply chains.

Origin Material Network Delivers Unique High-Performance Materials

ECCO's experience highlights the benefit of Origin's open material network. ECCO is using BASF's materials, designed to print consistently at very high resolution. ECCO can trust the production and supply experience of BASF while also tapping into new classes of materials.

Origin's material network is growing. The company recently expanded its network to include DSM, a leading global materials company with extensive experience in the additive manufacturing market. "With the addition of DSM to our network, we're enabling an even broader set of chemistries available to our customers," says Chris Prucha, founder and CEO of Origin.

Availability

Available to order now, the Origin One printer will begin shipping in the Fall of 2019. See the technology live at Rapid + TCT in Detroit, Michigan, May 21-23 at booth #2153.
