Firm's CEO Rob Slimp joins infrastructure and policy leaders for IWeek kickoff in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, May 13, 2019 — (PRNewswire) —
WASHINGTON, May 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As the seventh annual national Infrastructure Week, May 13-20, launches in Washington, D.C., HNTB Corporation joined a group of top leaders from American business, labor and government to support the critical role infrastructure plays in the nation's economy and prosperity.
Rob Slimp, HNTB chairman and CEO, kicked off a week of nationwide events with opening remarks at the Ronald Reagan Building. He welcomed Steny Hoyer, U.S. House of Representatives' Majority Leader, Anthony Foxx, former Secretary of Transportation and Chief Policy Officer for Lyft, and other infrastructure experts to discuss funding at the federal, state and local levels; the impact of technology, climate change and demographic shifts on infrastructure; workforce and education priorities; and infrastructure's role in the country's ability to compete globally.
"Our challenge and opportunity is to ensure that everyone has access to mobility options, to clean and affordable water, to a secure electric grid and fast internet," said Slimp in his remarks from the podium. "These are things that connect and unite communities and are the keys to job opportunities, to the quality of life all Americans expect, and to greater social equity."
HNTB continues as a Founding Sponsor of Infrastructure Week, a position it has held since the event's inception seven years ago. In addition to Slimp's opening remarks, firm leaders will take part in other IWeek events to highlight the critical importance of a well-funded, well-maintained U.S. transportation network. Eric Morris, HNTB Michigan office leader and vice president , will join a panel discussing the future of mobility on May 14, at IWeek's Midwestern Summit in Lansing, Michigan. John Barton, HNTB national DOT market sector leader and senior vice president , will speak on a regional mobility panel at IWeek's Southeastern Summit in Houston on May 17.
Infrastructure Week convenes a national week of education and advocacy that brings together American businesses, workers, elected leaders and everyday citizens around one message in 2019: "Let's #BuildForTomorrow. Starting Now." Each year during IWeek, leaders and citizens around the country highlight the state of our nation's infrastructure – roads, bridges, rail, ports, airports, water and sewer systems, the energy grid, telecoms and more. Participants celebrate and advocate for the projects, technologies and policies necessary to make America competitive, prosperous and safe.
At a time when a $2 trillion federal infrastructure package is being discussed by the current Administration, a bipartisan steering committee and more than 500 affiliates will host events, drive media attention, and educate stakeholders and policymakers about the critical importance of infrastructure and a national funding policy to America's economic competitiveness, security and job creation, and its impact on daily lives of every American.
