Strong Presence for the ASSESS Initiative at COFES 2019

ASSESS: Analysis, Simulation, and Systems Engineering Software Strategies to enable a significant increase in usage and benefit of these technologies

Clarkesville, GA - ASSESS Initiative, a broad reaching multi-industry initiative with a primary goal to facilitate a revolution of enablement that will vastly increase the availability and effectiveness of Engineering Simulation was proud to have had a strong presence at COFES 2019.  This strong presence included active participation in the program by ASSESS Initiative advocates including Joe Walsh, Andreas Vlahinos, Peter Thorne, Linda Lokay, and Karen Caswelch.  The vision of the ASSESS Initiative is to bring together key players, both users and developers of simulation software, to guide and influence the software tool strategies for performing model-based analysis, simulation, and systems engineering

Joe Walsh was the kickoff keynote Speaker on Sunday.  In his keynote address, Joe Walsh spoke about “Advancing the Simulation Revolution,” this year’s theme for the 2019 ASSESS Congress, and described the ASSESS Initiative activities and upcoming ASSESS 2019 Congress related to Advancing the Simulation Revolution.

Peter Thorne of Cambashi was the kickoff keynote speaker on Monday morning with a presentation on “Convergence in a Changing World”. Andreas Vlahinos of Advanced Engineering Solutions gave a presentation and led a discussion on “Do the newly-released real time simulation tools enable Democratization of simulation?”.  The ASSESS Initiative was also well represented at the awards dinner as Andreas Vlahinos was awarded the COFES Engineering Leadership award and Joe Walsh was awarded the Joe Greco Community Award.

Tuesday also showed a strong presence for the ASSESS Initiative with Peter Thorne of Cambashi giving a presentation and leading a discussion on “A rational basis for decisions”.  Joe Walsh and Linda Lokay of PTC led the discussions on Generative Design with presentations and led discussions on “Is Generative Design the shortcut to Democratization of Engineering Simulation?” and “Generative Design: A disruptive technology, or just another tool in the tool box?”. Linda Lokay of PTC and Karen Caswelch of SciArt participated in the “Women in Engineering panel which led to very animated discussions.  Joe Walsh wrapped up the ASSESS Initiative presence on Tuesday afternoon by participating on the analysts’ panel on “Understanding Technology Trends”.

Joe Walsh was also interviewed by Allen Saakyan of the Simulation Series concerning his endeavors, career choices, as well as his involvement with intrinSIM and the ASSESS Initiative.  That interview can be viewed here.

The ASSESS Initiative has been organized around a key set of themes associated with expanding the usage and benefit of Engineering Simulation. The ASSESS Congress provides an opportunity for key participants to explore and progress these themes in depth. In addition to the ASSESS Congress, theme focused working groups have been established to move the actionable themes forward between each annual ASSESS Congress by providing direction and guidance related to the mission, goals, activities, deliverables and collaborations for each ASSESS theme.

ASSESS 2019 is the fourth annual ASSESS Congress, which will be held October 27-29, 2019 in Braselton, GA at Chateau Elan Winery and Resort. The ASSESS 2019 Congress is being held to “enable” both strategies and relationships related to significantly increasing the use and benefit of Engineering Simulation. Key business drivers are forcing a “simulation revolution” to overcome the issue of required expertise which is limiting the expansion of Engineering Simulation usage.

Registration for the ASSESS 2019 Congress is by invitation only and is limited to 110 attendees. Those who have an invitation can register online and those interested participating who do not yet have an invitation may contact the ASSESS Initiative to apply for an invitation.

About the ASSESS Initiative

ASSESS Initiative LLC was formed in mid-2016 for bringing together the key players to guide and influence the software development and implementation strategies related to model-based analysis, simulation, and systems engineering, with the primary objective of expanding the use and business benefit of Engineering Simulation. ASSESS Initiative LLC is based in Clarkesville, GA, USA.
