Open Geospatial Consortium announces HERE Technologies has joined OGC as a Principal Member

As Principal Member, HERE will help to explore market and technology trends to drive standards for the development of interoperable location services

21 November 2018: The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is pleased to announce that HERE Technologies has joined the OGC as a Principal Member.

As a Principal Member of OGC, HERE will participate across OGC activities and serve in OGC's Planning Committee to explore market and technology trends relevant to OGC's mission, and to assure that OGC's policies and procedures remain effective and agile in a changing technological environment. Principal Members also participate in final approval decisions for all OGC standards and for nominations to the Board of Directors.

“HERE Technologies and OGC share similar visions about the value of location information to improve the ways we live and work,” said George Percivall, OGC’s CTO & Chief Engineer. “We look forward to working with HERE and its Open Location Platform for interoperable and open location data management services.”

“The Open Geospatial Consortium unites key players from the global geospatial industry as a platform for building and providing open standards around location data and APIs. We are looking forward to tap into, and actively contribute to, new developments in this area in close collaboration with our peers from the industry around the globe,” said Angel Mendez, EVP and Chief Operating Officer at HERE Technologies.

About OGC

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international consortium of more than 525 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC standards support interoperable solutions that ‘geo-enable’ the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful within any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
