Esri Location Intelligence Technology Now Offered on FirstNet

Geospatial Apps and Tools for Developers Now Listed for the Public Safety Community

REDLANDS, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 29, 2018Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, today announced it’s Explorer for ArcGIS app is now listed in the FirstNet App Catalog. The App Catalog allows FirstNet subscribers to discover and access technology that’s been specifically reviewed for use on FirstNet. Esri is also providing access to location-based APIs, SDKs, and configurable user apps for developers to support the integration of geospatial capabilities into solutions tailored for the needs of public safety. Explorer for ArcGIS is an industry-standard mobile application for Android and iOS that brings maps into the field on first responders’ mobile devices.

“Esri is excited to be included in the FirstNet App Catalog, targeted to the public safety community,” said Mike King, Esri global 911/FirstNet manager. “By giving first responders near real-time situational awareness tools, as well as the development environment and resources to create custom solutions, we have a continuing opportunity to enable public safety professionals to make better-informed decisions.”

Combined with Esri’s software as a service, ArcGIS Online, Explorer for ArcGIS allows first responders to access their agency’s authoritative maps in the field on mobile devices for better situational awareness. Explorer’s search capabilities allow responders to search and find places and features, such as assets or areas of interest. Responders can also stay productive in remote locations or in areas with limited connectivity by downloading their maps for offline access. Markup tools make it simple for responders to add notations directly onto maps that help communicate operational needs with other users. Explorer for ArcGIS can also be bundled with other apps in the FirstNet App Catalog – like AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk – to further give first responders more situational awareness of the incident.

“We’re pleased that Explorer is now Listed in the FirstNet App Catalog,” said Bob Sloan, Chief Operating Officer, FirstNet at AT&T. “Whether in the command post or in the field, Esri’s software helps first responders maintain situational awareness and helps give them a clear and actionable operating picture. As a FirstNet Listed application, public safety can be confident that Explorer for ArcGIS is a trusted solution that meets FirstNet standards for relevancy, security, and performance.”

For agencies looking to build similar capabilities into existing applications, Esri technology is available through APIs and SDKs. This allows developers to deploy apps on any modern web browser or device of their choice.

"We are pleased to welcome Esri’s Explorer for ArcGIS to the FirstNet App Catalog,” said Jeff Bratcher, Chief Technology and Operations Officer for the First Responder Network Authority. “Through our continued consultation with first responders and public safety we are informing industry of their needs for innovative applications to support their lifesaving mission. FirstNet is here to highlight these needs, and we are thrilled to have industry partners like Esri join the growing ecosystem for public safety broadband capabilities on FirstNet."
