SolidCAM CZ has been operating in the Czech Republic since 2003 and, since then, its business has grown rapidly with more than 1000 licences of its market leading CAM software in use in the country.
Ivan Cimr, Managing Director of SolidCAM CZ says, “We have 11 authorised resellers, one in Hungary, three in Slovakia and the remainder in the Czech Republic. Our task is to manage our reseller network to offer the best possible sales and service support for our end users.”

In addition, the company has machine tool resellers including Datron as well as industry partners such as Iscar and WNT which work with the software and recommend it to their customers.
SolidCAM’s resellers have a high level of technical competence, so supply support and training services themselves. However, SolidCAM CZ provides backup support, resolving queries from its reseller network and acting as an intermediary with SolidCAM’s HQ in Israel. This makes it easy for customers in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia to get the support and training they need locally and in their own language.
Ivan Cimr says, “The market for machine tools is highly sophisticated now. We did have a technical center which we opened in 2005, when the demands of industry were at a low level, aimed at educating engineers in advanced manufacturing techniques. It was very successful but, since then engineers have become better informed so there was not the same demand. Instead we work closely with educational establishments. 130 technical schools are now using SolidCAM so that students can have experience in it before they get to the workplace and also have a good grounding in 5-axis machining and advanced engineering. Currently the unemployment rate in the Czech Republic is only 3.7% so it is difficult to find skilled people. Companies go directly to 5-axis machine tools and complex mill-turn machines, automating their machining, and don’t buy 3-axis machines at all in an effort to overcome the skills shortage.”
SolidCAM’s i-Machining has been the driving force behind its success in the Czech Republic. The software is particularly effective on hard and difficult to machine materials where machining time savings of 70% are commonplace while in some instances it can go up to 90%. Ivan Cimr adds, “Tooling manufactures have used all their skills to try to outstrip i-Machining in cutting trials, but have not succeeded yet!”
SolidCAM CZ’s market is the 4th largest in the world for SolidCAM and its policy of introducing young engineers to the software will ensure it success for future generations of engineers. It will be exhibiting at the MSV – International Engineering Fair in Brno, Czech Republic in October 2018, giving companies an opportunity to see the technology in action.
