GUANGZHOU, China — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 26, 2018 — ZW3D, one of the world's leading suppliers of advanced CAD/CAM solutions for the manufacturing industry, announced that it was chosen by Next Boatworks to design boats through excellent surfacing functions.
The Need
The initial hull boat design was created in a well-known piece of surfacing software, which for some reason is a standard in the boat industry. However, the software has many problems. Thus, Phil Procario, ZW3D CAD Designer & Engineer and a professional Tool & Die Maker, recommended ZW3D CAD/CAM.
“We were wasting time and efforts and what’s worse, if we accept substandard results, some work could not be completed at all. We need a more mature tool,” said Peter Doering, who is working on the boat design project.
The Solution
“The long gentle curves and crisp defining lines of the boats design are not by coincidence like features found in vehicle design. ‘Naked’ carbon fiber surfaces that exhibit anisotropic reflective properties are highly glossy and black. Ideal to highlight the design features of the boat, it required a CAD tool with solid surfacing tools,” said Dennis Loebs, initiator of Next Boatworks.
Then, Dennis compared the tooling created by Phil of ZW3D with other boats tooling at the manufacturers shop. The superior surface of ZW3D tooling compared with the other tooling was immediately apparent even in the less-than-professional iPhone images he sent.
“Thanks to ZW3D paired with Phil’s surfacing skills, we now have tooling for the hull created. You should see the images. Perfectly smooth reflections!” said Dennis Loebs.
