OGC announces an Urban themed Location Powers event, calls for speakers and participants

Location Powers: ‘Data, Interoperability and our Urban World’ will occur in Singapore 25-26 September 2018.

5 June 2018: The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) announces its next Location Powers event, which will focus on Data, Interoperability and our Urban World. The event will occur in Singapore, September 25-26, 2018, and will precede the the meetings of the Integrated Digital Built Environment (IDBE) Sub Committee.

As the world's population continues to urbanize, the space available for citizens to live safe and productive lives is under pressure. How do we find better ways to understand and use the space available in our urban communities while taking into account diverse and varied populations and landscapes? The capacity to collect and share high-quality Location data is at the heart of understanding how we live, work, and play in our urban environments and is key to helping us see the pathways to improving the lives of citizens.

This Location Powers event will explore areas such as transport, public safety, resilience and sustainability, building modeling, underground infrastructure, sensors & the IoT, and the ever-increasing world of big data & analytics. Outcomes of the workshop will feed an  OGC white paper or discussion paper concerning location related data sharing issues in the urban environment.

The Location Powers event will precede the meetings of the  Integrated Digital Built Environment Subcommittee - a joint initiative of OGC and  buildingSMART Internationallooking at how we bring into reality concepts such as the  Digital Twin for our cities.

About Location Powers

The Location Powers Summits are provided by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), whose members have been making the world’s location standards for over 20 years. Location Powers events bring together both private and public sector experts from across the globe and are designed to be interactive, cross-community discussions with each so far having produced industry guiding whitepapers. As well as being a place of learning for everyone about the power of location, the summits are also designed to help inform the future direction and work within the consortium to continue developing relevant and useful standards.

About OGC

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international consortium of more than 525 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC standards support interoperable solutions that ‘geo-enable’ the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful within any application that needs to be geospatially enabled. Visit the OGC website at  www.opengeospatial.org.

The ‘Data, Interoperability and our Urban World’ Location Powers event will occur on 25-26 September 2018, with the Integrated Digital Built Environment (IDBE) meetings on26-27 September. Both will be held at  the Singapore Land Authority’s GeoWorks collaborative platform, which aims to bring together geospatial companies, start-ups, and users in Singapore.

If you’re interested in speaking or attending, please use the contact form at the bottom of the  Location Powers website. This event is open to participation by OGC members and non-members alike.  Space is limited, so early responses are appreciated.
