Helix Semiconductors Delivers Presentation at IEEE ISPSD

CHICAGO, May 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today at the IEEE International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and ICs (ISPSD), Helix Semiconductors will deliver a presentation titled “High-Voltage Capacitive Voltage Conversion.” The presentation will take place at 1:55 p.m. in the Red Lacquer Room of Palmer House Hilton Hotel. It is based on a paper co-authored by Helix Semiconductors and X-FAB.

At ISPSD, Helix Semiconductors will explain that power supply architecture has remained virtually unchanged over the last several decades, but the capability and function of the electronic devices has increased. The small evolutionary changes in traditional power supply technology have resulted in only modest improvements in efficiency and power density, which are no longer capable of supporting the continued proliferation of electronic devices. Thanks to recent advances in process technology, it is now possible for higher levels of integration of high-voltage, high-power transistors, passive components, and low-voltage logic elements that enable disruptive improvements in power density and conversion efficiency.

The presentation will highlight a novel approach to high-voltage capacitive voltage conversion. This technology is suitable for many applications, including charging systems for cell phones, tablets or other handheld devices, USB power conversion, AC-DC adapters, DC-DC point-of-load (POL), and IoT devices. With high-voltage switched-capacitor and gate-driver techniques, voltage conversion results in efficiencies of greater than 98 percent peak, and greater than 97 percent from 5 percent to 100 percent load.

As the world’s premier forum for technical discussions in all areas of power semiconductor devices and power integrated circuits, ISPSD is a volunteer organization comprised of members with a similar mindset who wish to devote themselves to the progress of technology in their field. The mission of ISPSD is to cultivate an international forum for professionals in the field of power semiconductor devices and smart power integrated circuits to meet regularly, exchange ideas and promote the growth of the industry.

With this in mind, ISPSD is the ideal forum for Helix Semiconductors to communicate the strength of their disruptive technology. Said President and CEO Harold Blomquist, “Helix is on a mission to educate the industry about the type of energy efficiency now possible – and we are committed to bringing the highest power density to market. We’re excited to be a part of ISPSD and move the needle forward.”
