March 14, 2018 - Columbus, Oh. – DesignGroup of Columbus, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is in varying stages of planning, design and construction of several pioneering colleges of medicine projects around the U.S., which will result in greater efficiencies and improvement of medical training, patient care, holistic wellness and with a sensitive eye given to the overall well-being of the students who will use the facilities. DesignGroup focuses on architectural design and planning for healthcare, education, cultural, library and mixed-use commercial projects.
In the fall of 2016, NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine partnered with Arkansas State University’s Jonesboro campus to open the second osteopathic school of medicine in the state of Arkansas. Planned and designed by DesignGroup, this state-of-the-art renovation and renovation to the historic 86,000-square-foot Wilson Hall includes an osteopathic manipulative medicine lab, gross anatomy lab, simulated operating room and emergency room skills lab among other classrooms. Since distance learning is woven into the curriculum, a former library is now a multimedia classroom that accommodates 132 students.
DesignGroup worked with Ohio University and the Cleveland Clinic to renovate approximately 60,000 square feet of the Cleveland Clinic’s South Pointe Hospital for the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Located in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, the project included classroom and laboratory space, learning resources center, clinical training and assessment center, academic technologies, administrative and faculty offices and student and faculty lounges. Focused on the well-being of students, the project incorporated flexible spaces throughout the building for students to find moments of respite and quiet study. The $14 million conversion was completed in 2015 and received the American School and University’s Outstanding Design for Interior Renovation Award in 2016.
In 2020, The Ohio State University will cut the ribbon on a $95 million upgrade, expansion and renovation of Postle Hall, the home of the university’s renowned College of Dentistry and its 10 academic divisions. As Architect of Record, DesignGroup is leading project delivery on this complex, multi-phased project. The scope includes replacing the eastern part of the original building with a 150,000 square feet replacement, devoted to dental clinic and teaching spaces, radiology and pediatrics. Construction on Postle Hall is projected to begin in the spring of 2018.
“All of these projects underscore DesignGroup’s leadership on $150 million in colleges of medicine,” said Sherm Moreland, DesignGroup CEO. “Our project teams are proud that their work for these clients truly advances patient health initiatives and outreach.”
