New Zealand’s first OGC TC/PC meeting will follow the ISO/TC 211 meeting in Wellington and be bookended by environmental data and agricultural data summits
Nov 22, 2017 -- The Open Geospatial Consortium's (OGC) 105th Technical & Planning Committee (TC/PC) Meeting will be hosted by Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research in Palmerston North, New Zealand from December 4th–8th 2017. This is the first time the meeting has been held in New Zealand, and the opportunity to bring international and local expertise to the table has been embraced by the hosts and sponsors.
The OGC event will follow the meeting of the Geographic Information / Geomatics Technical Committee (ISO / TC 211) of the International Standards Organisations (ISO) in Wellington over the previous week – enabling those who have travelled from far and wide to participate in both meetings and enjoy New Zealand’s fabulous landscapes and hospitality on the weekend in between.
The week will see a great variety of Domain and Standards Working Group meetings, as well as several ad hoc meetings, and a variety of networking and social opportunities. New Zealand’s landscapes, recreation, cuisine and culture will all feature in the conference dinner on the Wednesday evening, and early registration for this event is encouraged.
The Australia-New Zealand Forum will meet on Tuesday 5th December. This session is open to members and non-members alike, and designed to facilitate region-specific open geospatial standards discussion and knowledge sharing.
The week will also feature two Summits, which will create opportunities for open participation by New Zealand organisations as well as engagement between local and international experts on two hot topics: environment and agriculture.
The Environmental Data Summit is a full day of presentations and discussion about the exchange of open environmental data, spatial data infrastructures, interoperability, semantics and data reuse. This is a technical forum open to anyone using environmental data and will attract science organisations, universities, central and regional government and businesses.
The Location Powers Summit: Data, Interoperability and AgriTech focusses on the application of geospatial standards in agriculture. National and international experts working in digital agriculture will share their experience and discuss how agriculture can leverage the growing volumes of location-related agricultural data. The Location Powers Summit is open to everyone who is using (or wants to use) agricultural data; whether as an agritech business creating value from data for farmers, a government agency supporting improved practice and resource use, or researcher using the gamut of data available to understand the future of agriculture.
The purpose of OGC Technical and Planning Committee meetings and associated Summits is to network, knowledge share, and advance the development of Open Geospatial Standards. To enjoy access to all the standards meetings on offer during the week, you will need to be an OGC member. However, the Opening & Closing plenaries, Regional Forums, Summits, Domain Working Groups, and networking opportunities are open to participation for anyone that is interested in learning about and furthering the development of open geospatial standards (registration fees will apply to non-members).
