Quasonix Uses NI AWR Software and Modelithics to Achieve First-Pass Success With a Transmitter’s Harmonic Filter Design

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – Oct. 5, 2017 -- At application frequencies above 1 GHz, component parasitics can significantly impact actual circuit performance and must be included in simulation to achieve accurate performance results. Extensive prototype board-level bench tuning and rework is typically required, which is costly in terms of board fabrication, engineering time, design productivity and missed time-tomarket windows for new products. Quasonix, a provider of high performance aeronautical telemetry products, developed a method to successfully design a transmitter’s low-pass harmonic filter in a single pass using NI AWR Design Environment and component models from Modelithics® CLR library to cut board iterations.

“Instead of relying on multiple prototypes, our designers were able to use Microwave Office combined with Modelithics models to optimize a harmonic filter for peak performance,” said Ted Longshore, senior RF designer at Quasonix. “This approach eliminated several PCB spins, which shortened the circuit development cycle one to two months.”
