Mapbox provides details on locations at highest risk for hazardous material contamination and other risks, as well as evacuation and shelter information
WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2017 — (PRNewswire) — Mapbox has published a new map to give residents and officials in Florida the most up-to-date information on the areas with the highest risk of hazardous materials in flood waters. The most up-to-date map can be found here ( https://www.mapbox.com/bites/00371/#7/26.314/-80.112) and includes a list of shelters, power plants, chemical plants, solid waste facilities, evacuation routes and evacuation zones.
Using the most recent satellite images from DigitalGlobe paired with points of interest for shelters, power plants, chemical plants, solid waste facilities, evacuation routes and evacuation zones, Mapbox created the map to highlight the areas of highest concern to help police, other first responders and state officials plan for and mitigate issues associated with chemical plants, refineries and potential toxic contamination in flood waters and to inform the public.
In the catastrophic aftermath of the largest hurricanes, maps and data are critical to the response. Geographic data about the infrastructure and people in the region allows responders to identify the most vulnerable areas and respond accordingly.
Mapbox will continue to update the map with the latest satellite images from Digital Globe as they become available (to show flooded areas and other changes as they occur).
