USGIF’s Certified GEOINT Professional (CGP) Certifications Earn Third Party Accreditation

Certification program gains NCCA recognition for meeting credentialing industry standards

Herndon, Virginia, July 24, 2017 — The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation’s (USGIF) Certified GEOINT Professional ( CGP) certifications were recently granted accreditation by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies ( NCCA), the accrediting body of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence ( ICE).

NCCA is a third party accrediting organization and its Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs were created in 1977 and updated in 2003 to ensure certification programs adhere to modern standards of practice for the certification industry. USGIF joins an elite group of more than 120 organizations representing more than 270 programs that have received and maintained NCCA accreditation.

Accreditation for professional certification programs provides impartial recognition that the program has met accepted national and international credentialing industry standards for development, implementation, and maintenance. NCCA was chosen by the U.S. Department of Defense as its primary and preferred accrediting organization.

“Having a third party look at our program lends credibility and gravitas to our certifications,” said Dr. Darryl Murdock, USGIF’s vice president of professional development. “The fact that the program is NCCA-accredited speaks volumes of the professionalism of our team, and is yet another example of the value USGIF brings to our professional development offerings.”

USGIF’s Universal GEOINT Certification Program launched in 2016 and is the first transparent and transportable professional designation for the GEOINT tradecraft. The three exams for the Certified GEOINT Professional (CGP) designation are GIS and Analysis Tools (CGP-G), Remote Sensing and Imagery Analysis (CGP-R), and Geospatial Data Management (CGP-D). All three CGP designations earned NCCA accreditation.

Individuals who earn all three CGP certifications are eligible to apply for USGIF’s overarching Universal GEOINT Professional (UGP) designation. The program is beneficial to all GEOINT practitioners globally across multiple industries, military, academia, and federal, state, and local government.

The NCCA accreditation also presents new opportunities for USGIF to continue discussions with U.S. government entities that have openly embraced the value of external credentials.
