Eta Compute Announces New Reference Design for EtaCore™ ARM Cortex-M3™, the World’s Lowest Power Microcontroller IP

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., June 20, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Eta Compute Inc., the company that removes power as an obstacle for the infinite Internet of Things (IoT), today announced  the availability of a new reference design for its revolutionary EtaCore™, the world’s lowest power microcontroller IP, which operates on the smallest energy harvesting supplies without compromising functionality or performance. In addition, the company announced that its CEO and co-founder Gopal Raghavan, Ph.D., will present on “Energy Harvesting and Energy-Efficient Power Solutions for Sensor Applications” June 27 at 9:00 a.m. at the 2017 Sensors Expo in San Jose. Eta Compute will exhibit in booth #1640.

“Eta Compute is pioneering a revolutionary reduction in power consumption of microcontrollers and SoCs used in the connected world by delivering a 10X improvement in power efficiency over any alternative,” said Paul Washkewicz, vice president and co-founder of Eta Compute. “This reference design provides the flexibility and features needed to help accelerate product development and shorten time to market for virtually anyone seeking to capitalize on the explosive IoT market.”

The EtaCore ARM Cortex™-M3 reference design interfaces to standard Eclipse, Keil and Linux debug and development environments which allows designers to quickly test and customize the functionality and performance of their IoT application. The design consists of sensors for ambient light, temperature, humidity and pressure and is powered by a half-inch square solar cell.  Additionally the unit can be networked by on-board LoRaWAN™ components. The dimensions of the reference design measures 1.5 inches x 3.5 inches.

Eta Compute developed delay insensitive asynchronous logic (DIAL™) design IP for maximum power efficiency so that SoCs can be powered by small batteries and energy harvesting. The EtaCore enables reliable voltage scaling down to 0.25 Volts with nanowatts of power consumption. The various energy harvesting techniques, such as solar, thermal, vibration, or RF energy harvesting can supply 15uW to 15mW which is ideal for motion, video, and always-on sensor processing. This Cortex™-M3 IP scales power and performance down to the nanowatt arena.

About Eta Compute

Eta Compute was founded in 2015 specifically to bring a revolutionary reduction in power consumption to microcontrollers and SoCs used in energy - constrained sensors and devices for IoT. Its initial solutions are revolutionizing low power consumption for IoT by delivering the world’s lowest power analog and digital IP, CPU cores and SoC designs that improve power efficiency by a factor of 10 without compromising functionality or performance. The company was started by industry veterans Gopal Raghavan, Ph.D., Tim Semones, both co-founders of Inphi Corporation and Paul Washkewicz an early executive of Inphi. Their new company is comprised of a team of the world’s leading CPU and SoC architects, analog and digital designers and tool developers.

Eta Compute offers a variety of licensing models designed to meet the unique needs of each customer and the company’s turnkey consulting and design services result in leading-edge technology solutions that exceed customer expectations for low-power, performance and value.
